Communities of practice

I discovered that when people some people talk about CoPs, they can often mean something which isn't a Cop at all, but merely an online interest group or a set of students.

A community of practice should be based upon a core of members who share the same practice, who have a common field of knowledge, and who form a community which communicates regularly to help members improve their individual practice and build a shared knowledge about the specific area.
