It's a series
I think Wikipedia is almost certainly correct to define a podcast not as a file but as a series of episodes, in the same way that a blog is not comprised of one single article. It's also true that it doesn't make it any easier to post audio files, in fact there is one extra step involved - to embed each episode within the RSS stream so that it can be automatically subscribed to and synchronised on the listeners devices. But no doubt the sense of audience could be a strong motivating factor for those who decide to keep up a regular podcast. Has anybody mentioned the shortcomings compared to text yet? no search no hyperlinks no scanning no copy and paste quoting Some of these may eventually be addressed by highly sophisticated software which can make audio almost as useful as text. A question about style I've seen it asserted that podcasting style infers an informal, unscripted approach with little or no editing. Is this so? |
